Cogitations from the Chair

One Year After--Picking Up the Pieces was a tremendous success.  It was a show that touched so many people and celebrated the resiliency of our communities as we still cover from the effects of Hurricane Michael.  So many people worked hard to make this show a success.  My thanks go to Melina Elum for her production skills in creating the video, "From Tears to Triumph; Libby Newman, Leslie and David Wentzell, Linda & Rick Matela, Marcia Casey, and all the many high school and community volunteers who contributed to this show.

We also have people hard at work preparing for the Forgotten Coast Festival of Trees opening on Nov. 22. So as Thanksgiving approaches, we at The Joe have much to be thankful for -- our hard working members and volunteers, our supporters and our visitors that walk through the door.  So, thank you to all and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Forgotten Coast Festival of Trees

Nov. 22 -- Dec. 14

Join us for a new Family Tradition!  Come and enjoy displays of Christmas trees, wreaths and holiday decorations.  A selection of items in the Silent Auction could take care of holiday gifts for those on your shopping list. There will be fun activities for everyone. The schedule of these activities is still being finalized, but it is filled with music, storytelling, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, demonstrations  and ornament making for kids and grown-ups.  As soon as we have all the activities on the calendar, we will post it in another newsletter, on Facebook and in the newspaper. Here's a heads-up for all you bakers--there will be a Community Cookie Exchange on Saturday, Dec. 7!  Be sure to join us at the Opening on Nov. 22 from 5-8pm ET.  This will be a family reception with Christmas cookies, holiday punch and hot chocolate or cider.

Thank You, Libby
The Board has accepted the resignation of Libby Newman with great regret.  Libby has shared her creative genius and love of creating art events that engage the entire community since The Joe began. She has helped plan and curate shows.  A lot of her influence could be seen in the "One Year After..." Show.  Unfortunately, she has other commitments that she needs to focus on at this time.  She will be here contributing where she can and we hope she will rejoin us.  Thank you, Libby!

November Member Meeting
In lieu of a regular member meeting, we invite everyone to get a head start on the holidays and come to the Opening Reception for Forgotten Coast Festival of Trees on Nov. 22 from 5-8pm ET.  Bring the family or the grandkids to this reception with Christmas cookies, holiday punch and hot chocolate or cider served by Mrs. Claus.  There will be story telling by Robyn Rennick and beautiful music performed  by Neldys Crespo and Jessica Beasley.

Docent Recognition
The Joe has had many volunteers take on various roles during this year of rebuilding.  As we prepare to open our final exhibit for 2019, we would like to thank those who have served as a Docent for The Joe.

The Docents who helped us keep the doors open for the 2019 exhibits include Nelda Allen, Nancy Dickson, Donna and James Fettinger, Bernadette Hackett, Sue McCarthy, Linda Matela, Gretchen Mayes, Arthur and Barb Peters, Cheryl Ploegstra, Janis Ramos, Nancy Swider, Ann Tison, Marcy and Rich Trahan, Susan Walls, Leslie Wentzell, Lynne Whitfield and Janice Wright.

We have added days for the Forgotten Coast Festival of Trees, so we would love to have additional docents to cover these events.  Please contact Donna Elkins,
jelkins321@comcast.net or go to www.thejoecenter.org and click on the volunteer tab.

Thank You to our New and

Renewing Members

Each month we want to recognize and acknowledge the support of our new and renewing members.   We wish to thank all those who have renewed or joined since our last newsletter and some that we inadvertently missed before.  If you think I have missed you, please let us know. If you haven't gotten around to it yet, please renew and continue your support of The Joe.  Go to our website: www.TheJoeCenter.org to join or renew. A membership in the Joe for the artist or art lover in your life would make a great Christmas gift.
