Basket weaving

This large basket’s versatility is its most charming feature! Perfect for magazines, chairside projects, shelf storage, children’s toys, pet toys, beach towels, bath towels – you decide. This basket would be an especially handy accessory by the fireplace or fire pit for kindling, pine cones, small twigs and other starter material. Start by weaving a square base that measures 12” x 12” and evolves into a functional round basket as you weave up to a 10” height. Finished with leather handles, this basket could be the secret to your organization! Suitable for all experience levels of weavers.

Artist statement:
After taking a series of basket weaving workshops over 40 years ago through the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Cultural Arts Department – Sharon knew she had found her craft. As a long time hobbyist, Sharon has worked with a variety of basketry mediums including reed, black ash, white oak and cane. She has had the privilege of studying with well-known basket artisans Martha Weatherbee, Tom Thompson, Bill Owens and Laura Lee Zanger while attending twill, Nantucket and Appalachian workshops.
Sharon has done demonstrations at State Parks and festivals and taught classes at the Pioneer Settlement in Blountstown, the Washington County Historical Society in Chipley, Bay Arts Alliance in Panama City, the Joe Center for the Arts in Port St. Joe and Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA.
Every student leaves class with a completed handmade heirloom basket and an appreciation of basketry techniques and materials.
Sharon encourages her students to use their lovely basket creations and as such functional baskets are her specialty!
